Great Barrier Island

Great Barrier Island is a world of its own
Great Barrier Island is a ‘world of its own’. Take a trip back in time to when roads were unsealed and drivers acknowledged one another. There are no banks, no traffic lights and just a few shops.
The absence of possums has allowed the plant life to flourish and Great Barrier Island also has an impressive variety of birds, many of which are threatened and endangered.
There is a variety of walking tracks from the short walk to visit a waterfall or some hot springs to the longer walk taking you to the highest most point of the island.

Kawau Island

Gardens and walks at Kawau Island
Kawau Island Historic Reserve was created to protect Mansion House, Sir George Grey’s former home, and the gardens and landscape he created, together with sites and relics from the historic copper industry. The reserve is a popular destination for visitors. The island is easily accessed by private boats, with a choice of safe anchorages in and close to Mansion House Bay.
Visitors to Kawau Island have a wide range of activities to enjoy. Explore the historic reserve using the network of tracks or visit Mansion House and its exotic gardens, established by one of New Zealand’s most influential and controversial political figures, Sir George Grey. The island was also the site of one of New Zealand’s earliest mining ventures.
